Computertots
This national program has been developed by educators to engage inquisitive minds and has been featured on CNN and in Parents Magazine. Children will explore exciting computer activities in a small interactive group, using a laptop computer and educational software. The Pediatrics Medical Journal states, “Computers boost pre-schoolers’ intelligence. Children with ready access to computers scored an average of 12 points higher on IQ tests”. Our programs encourage reading readiness, math readiness, creativity and teamwork, to help prepare your child for kindergarten and the future. Each new session provides new learning adventures and software. Even children with computers at home will benefit from the social interaction and academic skills reinforced in this class. Each session provides new software and learning activities.

Jr. Robotics 101- Amusement Park Robotics
What could be more fun than creating your own Amusement Park? Using advanced LEGO® Mindstorms systems and infrared technology, students will build amusement park rides and learn to program a ghost train, a bumper car, a merry-go-round, and a tour bus to move. Students will work in teams of 2 – 3, learning and having fun using their imagination and creativity.

DIGITAL MOVIEMAKING & STORYTELLING

Alien Invasion Robotics
Two LEGO® astronauts have crash landed onto an alien planet and they need your help. Using the amazing LEGO Mindstorms® systems and infrared technology, students will build and program robots to help the astronauts explore the planet and communicate with the aliens. Students will use touch and light sensors and motors and learn how to program using Robolab software. They will work in teams of 2 students per Robotics kit.

Young children love to build - and building is a great way to enter the world of engineering! Dive into the world of video game animation by creating characters that dance, sing and interact with one another. Creativity rules in this fun version of video game design!

Now is the time to expose young children to technology and foreign language! Go Around the World with COMPUTERTOTS as we introduce your children to cultural appreciation and the concept of the world and geography. Students will use educational software to integrate computer skills and explore the Spanish language and their different cultures. They will practice basic vocabulary using interactive computer programs. In addition, they will sing songs, play games, create artwork and celebrate cultural festivals. Each week, they will explore a different country and get their passports stamped for the country they explore.

They will also use problem solving & discovery techniques as they build readiness & computer skills. While one group performs, another group will be recording your talents using a digital movie camera. You can then add special effects to your performance! Join the Cyberchase® Kids in a virtual computer adventure to save the carnival by solving incredible logic puzzles using Bumper Cars, Skeet Ball and many more! Watch for the Boom Ride, the Spin Ride and the Ferris Wheel. Moving from the virtual world to the real world is enough to make you dizzy with excitement. Robo Alien Adventure Robotics
Two astronauts have crash landed onto an unknown planet. Using the amazing Lego™ Mindstorms system, students will build and program robots, like RoboRover to help the astronauts explore the planet. Students will create a robot that helps them collect rock samples for the Alien Terrain called the RoboGrabber. They will learn important skills through making, programming and testing robots using touch and light sensors and learn about the process of exploring, planning and problem solving by working in small groups. In this fun and educational class, children will learn about animals using a combination of computer software and crafts. Students will work in small interactive groups to explore exciting activities using a computer and two different software programs during the week. Through these computer activities, they will discover different animal traits and will learn about animal babies, animal homes, animal care & animal sounds among other fun facts. They will also use problem solving & discovery techniques as they build readiness & computer skills. They’ll use their creativity and imagination to create animal puppets and creature books which they will take home at the end of class.

Do you want to be the next Steven Spielberg? You will become part of a team of writers, photographers, directors and producers and create your own story and script, build various Indiana Jones™ Lego® scenes and film your own movie. You will use graphic editing techniques and stop motion animation, add background noise and music, and show your movie at a private screening on the last day of class. All students will get a copy of their movie on a CD-ROM after class is complete. Students may bring their own peanut free snack if desired.

We are out to find the next great talent in New Lenox! Do you and your friends have a special talent? Can you sing? Dance? Lip-sync? Act? Do Magic? Comedy? Impersonations? This is your opportunity to shine in the spotlight! In addition to being the talent, you will also be the production crew for the show. While one group performs, another group will be recording your talents using a digital movie camera. You can then add special effects to your performance! Maybe you and your friends will create the next High School Musical? Bring your own music or costumes! Invite friends and family to see the show at the end of camp! We will then post your video to the COMPUTER EXLORERS blog where people may vote for their favorite talent during the summer! The winning talent will win a prize to be rewarded in August! What could be more fun than creating your own Amusement Park? Using advanced LEGO® Mindstorms systems and infrared technology, students will build amusement park rides and learn to program a ghost train, a bumper car, a merry-go-round, and a tour bus to move. Robo Alien Adventure Robotics
Two astronauts have crash landed onto an unknown planet. Using the amazing Lego™ Mindstorms system, students will build and program robots, like RoboRover to help the astronauts explore the planet. Students will create a robot that helps them collect rock samples for the Alien Terrain called the RoboGrabber. They will learn important skills through making, programming and testing robots using touch and light sensors and learn about the process of exploring, planning and problem solving by working in small groups.

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation Camp
Join us as we use logic, your senses and forensic science to solve crimes. Learn how to work the field scene and the laboratory end of CSI. We'll use finger printing, DNA detection, tire tread patterns and much more! Each lesson will focus on a new forensic skill which will lead to solving a final investigation. No blood, no gore … but excitement galore!

Carnival Chaos Camp
Join the Cyberchase® Kids in a virtual computer adventure to save the carnival by solving incredible logic puzzles using Bumper Cars, Skeet Ball and many more! Students will build three physical real world motorized carnival rides complete with music and other sounds. Some of their ride creations are three feet high! Watch for the Boom Ride, the Spin Ride and the Ferris Wheel. Moving from the virtual world to the real world is enough to make you dizzy with excitement. You will need to use your greatest problem solving skills to figure out the challenging puzzles & games. Students will work in teams of 3-4 students.

As they learn the production process, they will animate, record, download, assemble & edit their own movies. Fun, learning & excitement go hand-in-hand in this special class. Students will get a CD-ROM of their movies after class ends.

Moviemaking 101 - Making Your Own Indiana Jones™ movie Do you want to be the next Steven Spielberg? Using your own imagination, creativity, special digital movie making cameras, software and Indiana Jones™ Lego sets, you will create your very own Indiana Jones™ movie! You will become part of a team of writers, photographers, directors and producers and create your own story and script, build various Indiana Jones™ Lego® scenes and film your own movie. You will use graphic editing techniques and stop motion animation, add background noise and music, and show your movie at a private screening on the last day of class. All students will get a copy of their movie on a CD-ROM after class is complete. Students may bring their own peanut free snack if desired.

TECH TOTS from COMPUTERTOTS!
Does your three-year-old love the computer, but gets frustrated when the mouse doesn’t go where she wants it to go? Or does he click too many times, and the action gets frozen? Our unique 8 session course will have your 3 year old ready to teach you the tricks of technology! Following our proprietary scope and sequence, young students will work in small interactive groups to learn basic computer operations, familiarize themselves with the keyboard, practice desktop skills with pull-down menus…and HAVE FUN! At the end of the course, each student will take home a multi-media slide show that demonstrates his/her new skill! Watch out, Bill Gates!! The new generation is on its way! Each session offered provides new learning activities.

COMPUTERTOTS: Summer Series
This national program will help your child prepare for the future. Children will explore exciting computer activities in small interactive groups, using computers and other peripherals. According to the Pediatrics Medical Journal, “Computers boost pre-schoolers’ intelligence. Children with ready access to computers scored an average of 12 points higher on IQ tests”. Our programs encourage reading readiness, math readiness, creativity and teamwork, to help prepare your child for kindergarten and the future. Students will experience new learning activities in each session so sign up for one or both.

INTRO TO DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY
Students will enter a digital photography center to experiment with using digital photos to create puppets, movies, special effects & more! First we will learn how to take a good digital picture & then we will practice fun digital editing techniques as we create our projects. This course offers young students a chance to practice Language Arts & Reading Readiness skills in a fun & exciting way!

DIGITAL MOVIEMAKING & STORYTELLINGLet’s make a movie together! We’ll sing songs, tell stories & learn how to use a digital camera as we create our own masterpieces. We will do it all - from filming the movie & downloading it to a computer to storyboarding & adding special effects. Watch out Hollywood - we are on our way! Students get a copy of their creation on a CD-ROM.

Yorkville’s Got Talent! We are out to find the next great talent in Yorkville! Do you and your friends have a special talent? Can you sing? Dance? Lip-sync? Act? Do Magic? Comedy? Impersonations? While your group performs, another group will be recording your talents using a digital movie camera. You can then add special effects to your performance! Bring your own music or costumes! Not only will you get a copy of your show on a CD, we will post the videos to the COMPUTER EXLORERS blog. Friends and family can vote for their favorite talent (you!) during the summer, and the winner will be awarded a prize in August! No auditions necessary, but spaces are limited.
